Deliver Great-Looking Menus, Tool Bars and Skins in Windows Applications!

Visual DataFlex delivers important enhancements that enable developers to quickly give new and existing applications exciting visual interfaces with state-of-the-art menus, toolbars, status bars, and skinning.

Visual DataFlex Studio uses Codejock Software’s highly-flexible Command Bars ActiveX control for rich menus and toolbars. Visual DataFlex menu and toolbar classes integrate the Command Bar control and the Studio adds a menu / toolbar designer to visually model your application. The included Codejock ActiveX controls can be distributed in your Visual DataFlex Windows applications at no additional cost.

Visual DataFlex Studio enhancements for menu and toolbar building include:

  • Codejock Xtreme CommandBars — Commandbars include a menubar, toolbars, a statusbar and context menus. The underlying technology for the menu system is Codejock Software’s Xtreme CommandBars. These COM classes have been imported using the Visual DataFlex Import ActiveX functionality. Visit www.Codejock.com to read more about the complete line of components.

  • New Visual DataFlex Classes — An additional layer of classes wraps the imported CodeJock COM classes to provide a familiar interface that is easy to use and easy to convert existing application menus.

  • Visual Designer — The new Studio provides full visual modeling of menubar and menu items, toolbars and toolbar items, context menus and the statusbar. DataFlex Help documentation.

Grids in Visual DataFlex
Visual DataFlex includes state-of-the-art data aware and non-data aware grids for developer use with the inclusion of Codejock Software’s grid controls. This rich set of new capabilities give developers extensive control over the look and behavior of an application’s grid.

There are two samples that exemplify the new grid’s features and characteristics. The samples can be loaded in the Visual DataFlex Studio right from the Start Center to make it easy to view the code and see the available properties.

Visual DataFlex 2010 / 16.0 delivers the highly-anticipated data aware and non-data aware grids into the developer’s tool box.

Skinning in Visual DataFlex 2008 - The Simple Way to Great Looks by Marcia Booth is a great reference that covers what skinning is conceptually, how it is applied in Visual DataFlex, and finshes by leading you through an example of how to apply a sample skin that is available with your Visual Dataflex installation.

SIG Codejock Framework - CalendarThe VDF SIG Codejock Framework
The SigCj project was formed by Martin Pincott, Ian Smith and Peter Bragg of the UK Visual DataFlex Special Interest Group. The main objective for collaborating on this project was to stop each of us reinventing the wheel. After much deliberation it was decided to make the project available under the Open Source GNU LGPL. Full details of this can be found here, including access to all source code.
